Overview

Under the general supervision of the Vice President Nursing & Clinical Services, is responsible for the overall supervision, administrative planning, control and coordination of the management functions of Pharmacy Services in order to achieve both quality and financial objectives in the provision of healthcare, education and participation in hospital and community health programs.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) and approved by the New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience: Three years pharmacy experience. Hospital/healthcare facility experience preferred.

Licensure: Licensure as Registered Pharmacist by passing examination of New Hampshire State Board of Pharmacy or reciprocation from another state.

Responsibilities

Clinical Competency

  • Oversees Pharmacy staff and department
  • Directs program for the purchase, inventory, and dispensing of pharmaceutical supplies
  • Develops and monitors compounding and dispensing programs
  • Supervises pharmacy staff in their work and duties
  • Manages administrative activities of the pharmacy
  • Serves as secretary for the P&T Committee
  • Controls cost of pharmacy service through formulary, staffing, and special programs
  • Is involved with educational programs for department, hospital staff, and community programs
  • Manages the hiring, termination, and annual evaluations of pharmacy personnel
  • Performs all functions of all staff pharmacist

Patient Advocacy

  • Utilizes appropriate resources for non-English speaking patients, healthcare illiterate patients, hearing and sight impaired patients and caregivers.
  • Takes proactive steps to recognize and report suspected abuse/neglect, including, child abuse, elder abuse, sexual abuse, and spousal abuse. Reporting identified cases to supervisor and appropriate authorities.
  • Clearly communicates to the patient and family at an appropriate level of comprehension

Quality

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and/or participating in professional societies.
  • Ensures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards. Making recommendations for adjustments in patient care as necessary.
  • Adheres to Infection Prevention standards, consistent in hand hygiene practice before and after each patient interaction. Adheres to infection prevention precautions. Holds team members to IP and hand hygiene standards and room/patient IP precaution measures to prevent infection or the spread of infection.
  • Follows Huggins Hospital's mission, vision and philosophy of care.
  • Participates in quality review, performance improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives within the department

Professionalism

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and/or participating in professional societies.
  • Participate in the CMS Survey Readiness activities, CMS surveys and any remedial measures.
  • Participate in organizational meetings as deemed necessary
