Under the general supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Services, is responsible for the therapeutic massage assessment of each client/patient in determining the appropriate massage technique in order to promote optimum health and function utilizing massage techniques.


Education: Certification in Massage Therapy

Experience: At least one year experience as a Massage Therapist is preferred.

Licensure: Valid/Current NH Massage Therapy License is required.


Quality/Customer Service

  • Greets all patients/clients by name and with a smile at scheduled time.
  • Explain the process of massage to the client right at the start of the treatment to put the client at ease.
  • Provide appropriate draping and coverage to maintain client’s dignity throughout and at the client/patients discretion.
  • Assist with data/information gathering to assist in quality measures.
  • May be asked to participate in Patient experience committee.

Massage Techniques

  • Performs various massage techniques to promote optimal health. Massage techniques are selected based on client/patient preference and clinical assessment.
  • Adheres to precautions and contraindications based on the intake information the client/patient provided.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age and needs of the client/patient.
  • The massage therapist must gauge the condition of the client’s soft tissues, the joint function and quality, range of motion, and muscle strength. The therapist must propose a specific treatment plan for the client
  • Evaluates client/patients through formal and informal evaluation.


  • Provides patient/client documentation including massage evaluations, progress notes and provider updates as appropriate to those clients referred by a provider.
  • Patient/client may be referred by Physical Therapy /Occupational Therapy; information may be gathered from the therapist to assist in the care.
  • Maintain documentation on a regular basis.
  • At off sites may be responsible for taking monies for the session. These monies will be tracked and accounted for at the end of day and given to the front desk staff at Back Bay Rehab.
  • Assists with scheduling of clients/patients as needed and also to document confirmation of client/patient attendance.


  • Will Travel to other off-site locations as needed.
  • Performs Administrative duties in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Massage therapist will educate clients on how to improve their posture and teach them strengthening, stretching, and rehabilitative exercises as well as relaxation techniques, as appropriate.
  • The massage therapist may often confer with Physical and Occupational Therapists, chiropractors, and Providers in order to design the proper treatment plan for a client. May also recognize the need for other therapeutic Treatment techniques (PT, OT, trainers etc) and assist the client/patient with referral.
  • Inventory and ordering of Massage Therapy supplies while keeping in tune with the budget.
