Under the immediate supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for leading the community programming for our active and engaged residents; identifying the therapeutic, recreational, and social needs of residents; and developing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating life enrichment programs designed to enhance the quality of life for our residents. The position may, at times, manage staff and oversee volunteers. The Life Enrichment Coordinator will develop life enrichment programs based on the six dimensions of wellness and follow a person centered approach model.


This is a full-time position at Sugar Hill Retirement Community.


Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred. Qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who is eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist, assistant, or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body such as the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation/Activities Certification

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in creating and coordinating life enrichment activities for older adults


Coordinate Life Enrichment Program

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive life enrichment program which helps meet the physical, social, intellectual, artistic, and spiritual needs of the residents
  • Coordinates the life enrichment program with other departments through on-going communication and collaborative efforts
  • Works with volunteers to coordinate and implement a meaningful use to volunteers in the life enrichment program
  • Coordinates, purchases, and maintains supplies and equipment as needed

Coordinate Events

  • Responsible for enhancing the quality of life for all residents by encouraging socialization of residents and ensuring their therapeutic needs are met through individualized programming
  • Oversees and implements meaningful activities and programming appropriate to the needs of residents which are fun and innovative including but not limited to entertainment, site seeing, local outings, lectures, and other programming
  • Recognizes special needs within the resident population and develops programs to meet those special needs
  • Creates and develops monthly/daily calendar of events that reflect varied interests of the residents and provides date, time, and location
  • Coordinates and hosts all special events, including holiday events. Coordinates the decoration of the community according to coinciding event
  • Cultivates community resources and entertainers to schedule various activities including special events

Sugar Hill Community

  • Cultivates opportunities for residents to engage in the community, both within Sugar Hill and the greater community
  • Provides a forum for residents to meet and share their ideas, thoughts, and concerns regarding services provided at the community
  • Works collaboratively with Assisted Living Activities Director to coalesce both communities providing collaborative programming

Customer Service

  • Provides quality customer service with a positive attitude and commitment to teamwork while meeting the needs of residents, staff, and visitors
  • Conducts initial assessments on all new participants and residents to evaluate their therapeutic and recreational needs
